Biewald, Gerd "Gary" age 74 of Roseville, MN died at St. Joseph's Hospital on February 1, 2019, surrounded by loved ones. He was born on 8/20/1944 in Hindenburg, Germany to Fritz and Frieda Biewald. He was married in 1984 to Joanne Rabe Blum. After graduating from the U of M in 1967, Gary served as a military policeman in Vietnam. He worked as a stockbroker until his retirement. In high school in Indiana, basketball was huge. He played on the team that won the State Tournament when he was a freshman. When his family moved to St. Louis Park, he played on that basketball team. St. Louis Park won the State Championship. Gary also played a lot of tennis and racquetball for many years. He was known to make a friendly wager on college and professional football and basketball. For many years he was a regular at a weekly poker game. "I Did It My Way" exemplifies Gary's life. He tended not to whitewash anything. He was honest and of the highest integrity. He was a voracious reader...intelligent...and opinionated! Gary was a loving husband, son, brother, and uncle. He was a kind man. If Joanne got in the car to drive out of town, he was sure to have filled the gas tank. When he realized her weakness for black licorice, she was never without a supply. He was a wonderful cook, and enjoyed treating others to his specialties. He will be missed. He was preceded in death by his parents, Fritz and Frieda Biewald; and his niece, Heidi. He is survived by his wife, Joanne; step-children, Kimberly (Bill), Kris (Jamie); step-grandchild, Samantha; brother, Karl (Carol); sister, Susan Prescott (Scott); niece, Amelia Biewald; nephew, Karl Biewald (Carol); and great-niece, Rosemary.
