Manske, William C. "Bill" Age 90 of Edina passed away January 10, 2019 in his home surrounded by his loved ones. Preceded in death by his parents and sister Joy. Bill was a creative force in Twin Cities advertising. Following graduation from the Minneapolis School of Art, (now Minneapolis College of Art and Design), he joined the Navy and served during the Korean War on the USS Iowa, and created Sleeve Banyon, a popular comic strip for his ship's newspaper. The influence of graphic novels and comic books can still be seen in his work today.

Following his stint in the Navy, Bill worked as a commercial artist and illustrator at Minneapolis ad agencies, some of his most iconic works included the Minnegasco Indian maiden and Insty Prints wizard. He later shared his artistic flair and talent as an instructor at Hennepin Technical College. After retirement, he continued to create art in his basement studio, leading to several paintings exhibited at the State Fair as well as special editions of his creations for friends and family. Bill's home was a must-see come Christmas, when he displayed his homemade Christmas decorations including a twinkling/moving Ferris wheel and a 12-foot Santa.

Bill influenced scores of young people through decades of coaching Edina youth football and hockey. Music was another of Bill's passions and he became an accomplished guitar player and country western music aficionado. He was most comfortable in a pair of sweatpants and an old shirt strumming on his guitar. We encourage any who can join us for Bill's funeral ceremony to feel free to wear your most comfortable/country attire - that's how Bill would want it.

Bill is survived by his brother Robert, his life's love and wife of 64 years; Beatrice; children Glenn (Jane), Jill (Michael), Lori (Tim), Kipp (Maria), Robyn (Paul), Toni (Robb). Grandchildren William, Katie, CeeBie, Katrin, Steven, Natalie, Derek, David, Sarah, Mike, Molly, Tony, Ryan, Julie, Nadine, and Megan. Bill was a wonderful, fun-loving, creative, husband and father. The world will be a whole lot less fun without him, though we will cherish the memories and smile often . . .
