Martin, Peggy (Mattern) Age 69. Passed away peacefully at home November 7. Peggy was born in Macintosh, SD, attended school in Spearfish, SD graduating in 1967 from Spearfish High School. She graduated from Black Hills State University in 1972, earned her MA from the University of Minnesota and completed extensive post graduate work there. She was employed by the Anoka Hennepin School District for 34 years beginning in 1972. Peggy taught in grades 2 through 6 at Adams and McKinley Elementary schools. She served in a variety of capacities at the Educational Services Center beginning in 1987. She was a Gifted and Talented Specialist, Teaching and Learning Specialist, and Director of Secondary Curriculum until her retirement in 2006. Peggy was an avid traveler and passionate about education, politics and books, and loved to talk about them all. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother she is survived by her husband Don, daughter Kim Kirmeier, son-in-law Rand Kirmeier, grandchildren Kate and Ryan, and five brothers and sisters, Al, Sandy, Don, and Lyle Mattern and Sue Milbrandt. A celebration of Peggy's life will be held on Saturday, November 17, from 2:00 to 5:00 pm (program begins at 3:00) at The University Club at 420 Summit Avenue, Saint Paul, MN 55102. A second celebration is planned for December 23 in Spearfish, SD. Join us in celebrating having Peggy in our lives. A memorial has been established with the Anoka Hennepin Education Foundation for the purpose of supporting the Destination Imagination program.
