Kalin, Mary Ellen age 99, passed away on October 7th, 2018 at St Therese Nursing Home in New Hope. Born in Buffalo, MN on Jan 11, 1919 to Anne and Zachary Varner. Preceded in death by Tony, her beloved husband of 51 years, and her eleven brothers and sisters. Mary is survived by her children: Nancy (Steve) Weller of San Mateo, CA; Jerry (Ann) Kalin of Bonita Springs, FL; and Ron (Jane) Kalin of Maple Grove, MN; seven grandchildren; eleven great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Mary was a shining example of the Greatest Generation exemplified by her love and devotion to her husband, family, and friends. She is remembered for her enjoyment of baking, sewing, quilting and knitting which she used to create memories and treasures cherished by her family. She was always happy to lend a helping hand however she was needed whether it be painting a house, babysitting a grandchild, mending a hem, or baking a pie. At age 99, Mary maintained her sense of humor and positive outlook, recently sharing her secret for a long life: "Eat healthy and be grateful for what you have." On behalf of her family, we would like to express deep gratitude for the love and care the staff at St Therese of New Hope provided for Mary during her final years.
