Just a quick update on the "Liquid Gold" front.
It's Been Too Warm
It seems we went from winter to late spring. Where did early spring go?

Two weeks ago, temps ( and forecasts) were shwoing signs of spring and hope for the maple trees to start dripping the sweet stuff we cook every year. So it surely was time to break trail to the Red Door Resort sugar shack and break out the several hundred buckets and spiles. We scrambled to get the new propane burners in place. Now what? Here I sit. In the office instead of in the middle of a 2 week, 24hr. per day marathon in the sugarbush.
We went from typical late winter temps to late spring temps, it seems, for the past two weeks. Simply, we have not had one night of freezing lately. And without the cold, clear, freezing nights, the maple trees barely drip, if they do at all. So the new propane burners under the 8ft. cooking pan have yet to boil a drop. Here I sit!
Now the forecast looks good for later this week and into most of next week. High 20's for lows and mid 40's for highs should make for a gusher. With no snow on the ground to insure cold nights, it will be intersesting to see how long the run will be. My guess? Short but big! No rest for the wicked by this time next week. I hope.
