Gov. Tim Pawlenty appointed Dan Bartholomay on Friday as the next commissioner of the Minnesota Housing Finance Agency.

Bartholomay, 47, has served as director of the Region and Communities program at the McKnight Foundation in Minneapolis since 1995. His work includes "fostering collaboration and coordination of affordable housing, economic development and transportation grants," the governor's office said.

Bartholomay was executive director of North End Area Revitalization (NEAR) in St. Paul from 1990 to 1995. He is a graduate of Carleton College with a degree in urban affairs.

The current commissioner, Tim Marx, is resigning in November to take over a New York nonprofit that provides housing for the homeless.

The agency subsidizes housing for low- and moderate-income Minnesotans by providing breaks on financing.
