First round restored: a small NCAA victory

The NCAA men's basketball tournament's expansion from 64 to 68 teams five seasons ago brought along with it a confusing (and maybe even maddening to some?) change of parlance.

The Tuesday/Wednesday games between the last four teams who made it in were referred to as the "first round," with what many considered the start of the real tournament on Thursday signaling the start of the second round.

But now? Order has been restored. An NCAA spokesman said that the opening games will simply be the First Four. The first round? Starts Thursday.
