The Minneapolis ad agency Mono has been selected by news giant MSNBC to be its agency of record in marketing and advertising efforts.

MSNBC is the second television organization to hire Mono for brand development. In working with the USA Network, Mono came up with the "Characters Welcome" brand five years ago that is still in use today.

MSNBC praised Mono for its creative work. "The MSNBC audience is passionate, and we're poised for tremendous growth with further investment in our brand," said Sharon Otterman, chief marketing officer for the network.

Mono recently was named small agency of the year in its category (11 to 75 employees) by Advertising Age.
