Aircraft aid in search for fugitive ex-cop Clear skies allowed aircraft with heat-sensing technology to aid scores of officers searching in the snow-covered San Bernardino Mountains for Christopher Dorner, the former Los Angeles police officer suspected of killing three people in a rampage aimed at those he blames for ending his career. It was the third full day of the massive effort to hunt down Dorner. He's continued to elude authorities whose last clue of his whereabouts was a burned-out pickup truck found Thursday in the ski resort town of Big Bear Lake.

Polio vaccine workers gunned down At least nine polio immunization workers were shot dead in Kano state by gunmen who attacked two clinics. The killings, with echoes of attacks by Islamists that killed nine polio workers in Pakistan in December, represented another serious setback for the global effort to eradicate polio. Most of the Nigerians were women and were shot in the back of the head, local reports said.

Israelis forces remove encampment The Israeli military said it removed 100 Palestinian activists who had pitched an illegal tent camp near the city of Hebron. Saturday's operation marked the fifth time in the past month that Israeli forces broke up a Palestinian encampment. The Palestinians aim to draw attention to Israel's control of territory they seek for a future state.

Mortar rounds kill six in refugee camp Six people were killed and more than 50 wounded when mortar shells fell on a refugee camp for members of an Iranian opposition group that recently won a reversal of its terrorist designation by the United States. The camp, near the Baghdad airport, is home to about 3,400 Iranian exiles.
INDIA
Man hanged for deadly 2001 attack A man who had been convicted of involvement in the 2001 attack on Parliament that killed nine people was hanged. The execution of Afzal Guru, 43, a member of Jaish-e-Mohammad, came more than a decade after the Dec. 13, 2001, suicide attack. After the execution, clashes broke out in Guru's hometown, Sopore, in the northern part of Kashmir. Police and paramilitary units were called to restore order.

Protest leader put under house arrest A Moscow court ordered Sergei Udaltsov, a prominent opposition leader, to be placed under house arrest in one of the most assertive legal measures to date against a leader of the anti-Kremlin protests that began more than a year ago. Udaltsov, the leader of the radical socialist Left Front movement, faces a charge of conspiracy to incite mass disorder and faces a possible 10-year sentence. NEWS SERVICES
