VETERANS WHO MIGHT NOT BE BACK

1. Adrian Peterson, RB. Peterson's future with the team beyond 2014 was already in question before he admitted to "whooping" his 4-year-old son. Peterson, 30, has a cap number of $15.4 million in 2015, the highest among NFL backs. Peterson has defied common sense with his play for years, but that's a lot of money for an aging running back, potentially one who might be disgruntled and possibly open to a change of scenery.

2. Chad Greenway, LB. Greenway, 31, continued to be a tackling machine when he was on the field, but he battled injuries this season and his play is on the decline. Parting ways with Greenway, who is respected in the locker room and active in the community but carries a $8.8 million cap hit in 2015, could be an emotional decision.

3. Charlie Johnson, LG. The Vikings brought back Johnson with a two-year deal, but playing next to struggling left tackle Matt Kalil, the veteran guard was also a major liability before being sidelined with an ankle injury two weeks ago. Johnson is slated to make $2.5 million, but none of it is guaranteed, so count on Johnson, 30, being released.

4. Jerome Felton, FB. A Pro Bowl fullback in 2012, Felton was hardly used this season as the Vikings lost their identity without Peterson. He has played just 153 snaps — fewer than right guard Brandon Fusco, who was lost for the season in Week 3. Instead of paying Felton $2.5 million in 2015, the Vikings likely will release him if he doesn't opt out of the deal first.

5. Greg Jennings, WR. Jennings, 31, has not lived up to the monster contract he signed two offseasons ago. He has caught just 56 passes for 697 yards this season, but he has scored four touchdowns the past five weeks. The Vikings would have to eat $6 million if they cut Jennings, but they would free up $5 million in cap space.
