Family history: Ravens coach John Harbaugh, 50, is 15 months older than 49ers coach Jim Harbaugh, 49, and they are the sons of Jack and Jackie Harbaugh. They were born in Toledo, Ohio. John is named after Jack, whose given name is also John. Jim's name came from Jackie's doctor in Perrysburg, Ohio, who also was named Jim.

Chips off the old block: Jack Harbaugh was a football coach until 2009. He was a high school coach when John and Jim were born, then went on to be an assistant at six colleges and head coach at both Western Michigan and Western Kentucky.

John's journey: John was a defensive back at Miami (Ohio), then immediately became a college assistant coach starting in 1984. He jumped to the NFL in 1998 as special teams coach for Philadelphia. He was an assistant for the Eagles until becoming Ravens coach in 2008.

Jim's journey: Jim played college football at Michigan and spent 14 years in the NFL with Chicago, Indianapolis, Baltimore and San Diego. He made the Pro Bowl in 1995 after leading the Colts to the AFC title game. Jim was an assistant coach for Oakland (2002-03), head coach at the University of San Diego (2004-06) and head coach at Stanford (2007-2010) before taking over in San Francisco in 2011.

Family matters: John and Jim's sister, Joani, is married to Indiana men's basketball coach Tom Crean. Jim's oldest son, Jay, is a coaching intern for his Uncle John with the Ravens.
