PLAY OF THE GAME

PINBALL STYLE

When: Third quarter, 13:30 remaining

Score: Vikings 13, Lions 6

The play: Marcus Sherels (35) of the Vikings fielded a 41-yard punt by Nate Harris (5) at the 23. Gunner Kassim Osgood (10) missed the first tackle, and teammates Erik Coleman (24), Ashlee Palmer (58) and Jonte Green (36) followed suit. Matt Asiata (48) and Josh Robinson (21) of the Vikings had blocks to help Sherels on a 77-yard TD return.

MANY HAPPY RETURNS

Vikings first team to score on punt, kick returns three times

Percy Harvin returned Sunday's opening kickoff 105 yards for a touchdown and Marcus Sherels added a 77-yard punt return score in the third quarter. That was the third time the Vikings have returned a kickoff and a punt for a touchdown in the same game, an NFL record. The last time the Vikings did it was on Nov. 13, 2005, when Koren Robinson scored on a kickoff against the Giants and Mewelde Moore returned a punt for a score. Randy Moss (punt return) and Robert Tate (kickoff return) were the first duo in club history to do it, with special teams scores in a 1999 game against the Chiefs. The Lions gave up kickoff and punt return touchdowns for the second consecutive game, also an NFL record.

MANO-A-MANO

Vikings WR Percy Harvin vs. Lions WR Calvin Johnson

WHO WON?

Harvin's return TD trumps Johnson catches for 54 yards.

THE QUOTE

"We're garbage right now, and we're killing our team."
