Phil Miller covered three seasons of Twins baseball, but that was at a different ballpark for a different newspaper. Now Miller returns to the baseball beat after joining the Star Tribune as the Gopher football writer in 2010, and he won't miss the dingy dome for a minute. In addition to the Twins and Gophers, Miller covered the Utah Jazz and the NBA for six years at The Salt Lake Tribune.
BRADENTON, FLA. -- The Twins are on TV today for the second time this spring, with Joe Mauer behind the plate and Brian Duensing pitching against the Pirates.
Michael Cuddyer said he’s ready for another minor-league game back in Fort Myers. Justin Morneau will be getting some at-bats in that game, too.
Closer candidate Matt Capps is scheduled to pitch again today after tossing an inning Sunday against the Blue Jays. This will be Capps’ first time pitching on back-to-back days this spring, something Joe Nathan is looking to do before the Twins break camp.
Update: Nathan is scheduled to pitch two innings in a minor-league game today. This is another step for him.
Cuddyer is tentatively scheduled to play Wednesday night against the Orioles, along with Morneau and Mauer. It could be Manager Ron Gardenhire's first chance to field his Opening Day lineup.
"I think you should tweet that that we could have that possibility," Gardenhire said. "You will fire up the Internet again. You can tweet that one. I’m telling you the Internet will be ablaze -- possible lineup for Wednesday night. Wouldn't that be fun?"
OK, I will tweet it. Follow me there @JoeCStrib.
