FORT MYERS, FLA. - Manager Ron Gardenhire said the Twins will make 14 cuts from their 59-player spring training roster Monday, hinting that the team's top pitching prospect, Kyle Gibson, will be among those headed to minor league camp.

Gibson, 23, continued making an impression Sunday, when he retired all five batters he faced in a 6-3 split-squad loss to the Phillies at Hammond Stadium.

"Don't get your hopes up [about Gibson making the Opening Day roster]," Gardenhire said. "He's got tickets in hand. One of them, I'm sure, will head to Minnesota at some point. How soon? I don't know."

Gibson posted a 4.91 ERA in three Grapefruit League appearances, spanning 3 2/3 innings, allowing two earned runs on three hits, with two walks and three strikeouts.

Gardenhire said many of the first cuts will be starting pitchers.

"We have six guys going for [five starting rotation] jobs here," he said. "And the starters we plan on having in Triple-A need to be stretched out to start the season."
