Blaine defeated second-seeded Maple Grove 3-1 in the Class 2A, Section 5 girls' hockey semifinals on Tuesday night.

The Bengals (19-6-2) were seeded third and ranked No. 7 in this week's Let's Play Hockey poll, while the Crimson (18-5-4) were No. 4.

Morgan Reimann scored first for Blaine four minutes into the second period. Abby Jones scored for Blaine less than a minute later off a tipped shot from Rachel Lentner.

Later in the second, Lauren Stenslie scored for Maple Grove to cut its deficit to 2-1.

Abby Jones added an insurance goal for the Bengals with 2:17 left in the third period.

Jaela O'Brien made 24 saves in goal for Blaine.

The Bengals will play top-seeded Centennial on Friday at the Roseville Ice Arena.

White Bear Lake 3, Mounds View 1: The Bears scored three unanswered goals in the second period to eliminate the Mustangs in the Class 2A, Section 4 semifinals. Ashlyn Jungwirth, Sydney Shearen and Sophia Verkerke had goals for White Bear Lake. Lauren Jahnke had a first-period goal for Mounds View. Calla Frank made 22 saves for the Bears.

Hill-Murray 6, Roseville 0: Haylee Blinkhorn had a natural hat trick to close out the Pioneers scoring in the other Class 2A, Section 4 semifinal. It was the junior's first hat trick this season. Abigail Boreen, Corrine Brown and Katie Kaufman also had goals for Hill-Murray. Ava Bailey earned the shutout.

Boys' hockey

Benilde-St. Margaret's 4, St. Louis Park 0: Carson Limesand made 24 saves as the Red Knights won the Metro West Conference title. Joe Collins scored twice and Charlie Bischel and Jonah Mortenson once each.

Andover 12, Coon Rapids 1: Nick Dainty and Charlie Schoen both scored hat tricks and had three assists to lead the Huskies over the Cardinals.

Delano 7, Litchfield/Dassel-Cokato 2: Justin Daly recorded a hat trick and an assist to lead the Tigers. Quinn Daly added two goals.

Princeton 3, Little Falls 2: After two periods the Tigers led the Flyers 2-0 on goals from Ray Anderson and Matthew Swanson. Ethan Ballou and Andrew Marod tied it up for Little Falls with third period goals. Jack Southard scored the game-winner on a power play.

Girls' basketball

Hopkins 69, Minnetonka 36: Paige Bueckers scored 21 points to lead the Class 4A, No. 3-ranked Royals. Raena Suggs added 20. Hopkins coach Brian Cosgriff became the 19th girls' basketball coach in state history to reach 500 career victories. Of those coaches, Cosgriff, in his 19th season as a head coach, has the best winning percentage (88.4).

Eastview 69, Lakeville South 64: The Class 4A, No. 1-ranked Lightning continued its 22-game winning streak and undefeated season. Megan Walstad led all scorers with 19 points for Eastview. Mariah Alipate and Cassidy Carson both added 14. Anna Harvey scored 18 for the Cougars.

Minneapolis Southwest 40, Minneapolis Edison 33: Olivia Youngdahl had a double-double, scoring a game-high 20 points and grabbing 14 rebounds.

Boys' basketball

Minnetonka 89, Maranatha 82 (OT): Gavin Payton exploded for a season-high 39 points to lead the Skippers past the Mustangs. Minnetonka held Maranatha to just four points in the extra frame while putting up 11. Maciah Harut scored 21 for the Mustangs.

Notes

Rare coincidence: Opposing players have scored 50 or more points in the same game just twice in state history, both times Feb. 12.

On Monday, Mahnomen/Waubun beat Red Lake 110-91, and Jayden Heisler of Mahnomen/Waubun and Kendall Whitefeather of Red Lake each had 50 points. Whitefeather also recorded his 1,000 career point in the game.

Five years earlier, Lakeview Christian beat Deer River 112-107. Anders Broman of Lakeview Christian scored 58 points while Noah Kaczor of Deer River had 54 points.
