A pair of special teams goals lifted the St. Paul Johnson boys' hockey team over St. Paul Highland Park 2-1 on Thursday in the inaugural St. Paul Cup.

Alex Campbell scored shorthanded and Joe Moberg scored on the power play in the second period to give the visiting Governors a one-goal lead into the third period. Campbell got the Governors on the board 12 minutes into the middle period. Moberg put the Governors ahead for good with 42 seconds left in the second.

Gabe Nelson got the Scots' goal 6:13 into the second period.

North St. Paul 4, Woodbury 2: The Polars held off a third-period rally to defeat the host Royals. Austin Vandell put the Polars on front with 2:23 left in the first period. The Polars broke the game open in the second period with goals from Kevin Donovan, Joe Reubish and Jake Edmunds in a 5:23 span.

Eagan 3, Park of Cottage Grove 2 (OT): Jonny Meiers scored his second goal of the game 2:48 into overtime to give the Wildcats a victory over the host Wolfpack.

Girls' hockey

Lakeville North 3, Rosemount 2 (OT): Maggie Flaherty scored 5:19 into overtime to give the Panthers a victory over the host Irish. The Panthers rallied from a two-goal deficit on goals from Jayden Neameyer and Olivia Reid in a 1:43 span in the third period. The Panthers had a 48-14 edge in shots on goal, including a 25-3 advantage in the third period and overtime. Rachel Carlson stopped 45 shots for the Irish.

Eden Prairie 3, Holy Family/Waconia 2: The Eagles jumped out to a 3-0 lead and held off a rally from host Holy Family/Waconia. Sydney Langseth, Crystalyn Hengler and Grace Kuiper scored in the first period for the Eagles.

St. Paul United 4, Park of Cottage Grove 3: Jenna Hoops and Samantha Burked scored two goals each to lead St. Paul United past the visiting Wolfpack.

Eagan 2, Shakopee 1: Brooke Peplinski broke a 1-1 tie with 11:29 left in the third period to give the Wildcats the victory over the visiting Sabers.

Girls' basketball

Lakeville North 73, Minnetonka 63: Lauren Jensen had 23 points and Analiese Tschida 21 to lead the Panthers over the host Skippers. Holy Angels 68, Minnehaha Academy 62: Alex Walker and Destinee Oberg had 17 points each to lead the Stars past the host Redhawks.
