She already was well-known in local basketball circles as one of the top freshmen in the state, but Hayes made the Class 3A girls’ basketball tournament her coming-out party. In three games, the 6-1 center scored 45 points, grabbed 29 rebounds and gave the Pirates a much-needed presence in the lane on both ends of the court, helping them to the first basketball state championship in school history.

The junior guard, a two-time All-Metro selection, scored 29 points in the Lightning’s remarkable 64-61 victory over Bloomington Kennedy in the Class 4A championship game. Guebert’s layup with 48 seconds left gave Eastview, which had never led in the game, its first lead at 62-61. Guebert was Eastview’s leading scorer in the tournament with 70 points in three games.
