State fishing report

Alexandria area: Lakes Mary and Reno are still the top producing lakes for walleyes, using leeches or crawlers on jigs at about 6-17 feet. Walleye action on some of the bigger lakes such as Ida, Miltona and Lake Le Homme Dieu is improving with the warmer water temperatures at 12-20 feet. On most area lakes, crappies are taking jigs with twister tails near cabbage beds on most area lakes, while blue gills are hitting on leeches at shallow depths.

Leech Lake: Anglers are finding the best walleye action on the flats between Little and Big Hardwoods, the Meadows and Goose Island at 10-13 feet using Lindy rigs with leeches or crawlers. The best panfish action has been in the bays. A few muskies are being caught as well.

Mankato area: Walleye action was good on area rivers, but recent heavy rains have hampered fishing. Anglers are catching some smaller walleyes on Washington using leeches with jigs or pulling crank baits along weed lines. Madison and Washington lakes are providing the best crappie and sunfish action at shallow depths using crappie minnows or wax worms. Northerns are hitting on crankbaits and bass are taking spinners on Madison along weed lines or docks.

Rainy Lake: Anglers are using jigs and spinner rigs with minnows for productive walleye action on Cranberry Bay, Black Bay and the Brule Narrows, as well as the structure from Grindstone Island to Cranberry Bay. Crappies and northerns are being caught on the west end of Black Bay. Smallmouth bass are active on Island View and Lost Bay.

Park Rapids area: With the warmer water temperatures, walleye action has started to pick up on Long, Potato and Fish Hook lakes using Lindy rigs with a leech. Crappies also are biting on most area lakes.

Willmar lakes area: Walleyes are hitting on Eagle, Florida, Andrew, Green, Nest, Long, Solomon and Elizabeth lakes. Northerns and bass are active on most area lakes.
