The last-place team in the WCHA gave the top-ranked Gophers women's hockey team the scare of its season on Saturday.

A day after losing 8-0 at Ridder Arena, Bemidji State held the lead on two different occasions and became the first team this season to take the undefeated Gophers to overtime before losing 3-2.

With just 1:12 left in overtime, Gophers senior Mira Jalosuo -- on Senior Day -- scored a power-play goal on assists from Kelly Terry and Rachel Ramsey.

It was the 44th shot fired on Bemidji State senior goalie Jessica Havel, who made a career-high 41 saves, including 18 in the third period. The Beavers put only 14 shots on Noora Raty.

The Gophers (32-0, 26-0 WCHA) extended their NCAA-record winning streak to 40 consecutive games, and they completed a perfect home regular season (16-0) -- a program first.

Freshman Kaityln Tougas scored both goals for Bemidji State (6-22-2, 5-20-1), giving the Beavers a 1-0 lead in the second period and a 2-1 lead in the third -- the Gophers' first third-period deficit of the season. Amanda Kessel and Ramsey scored the equalizers for the Gophers. For Kessel, it was her 43rd goal of the season.

Megan Bozek's assist on Kessel's goal was her 135th career point, the most ever by a Gophers defenseman. She had been tied with Winny Brodt.

Bemidji State took a season-high 16 minutes worth of penalties.

The Gophers finish the regular season next weekend at St. Cloud State before beginning the postseason.
