PRINCETON, N.J. – Junior forwards Hannah Brandt and Maryanne Menefee scored goals 1 minute, 4 seconds apart early in the third period to lead the Gophers women's hockey team to a 2-1 victory over Princeton in a nonconference game Saturday afternoon.

Brandt's 13th goal of the season and Menefee's fifth, put No. 2 Minnesota (13-1-2) ahead 2-0.

Princeton's Jaimie McDonell scored on the Tigers' fourth power play of the game at 15:18.

"We played solid but not well enough to win," Princeton coach Jeff Kampersal said. "We made a couple bad mistakes that they capitalized on them."

Junior Amanda Leveille, who lowered her goals-against average to 1.33, made 15 saves in the win for Minnesota, which outshot the Tigers 44-16.

Kimberly Newell had 42 saves for Princeton (6-5-1), which lost its fourth game in a row.

Brandt broke a scoreless tie 3:15 into the third period. Junior Brook Garzone intercepted a pass in the Tigers' zone and fed Brandt in the slot. Menefee, who had seven shots on goal, made it 2-0 when Newell's pads got tangled up with teammate Fiona McKenna's stick in the goal crease.
