SAM HENTGES, P/1B

Mounds View, sr.

The Star Tribune Metro Player of the Year was a fourth-round selection of the Cleveland Indians in the MLB draft. Also honored as the state’s Gatorade Player of the Year. The 6-7 lefthander was 6-0 with a 0.77 ERA. He also is a .362 hitter with three home runs and a team-high 17 RBI. Arkansas coach Dave Van Horn said: “He’ll have the opportunity to swing the bat as well as pitch.” (College: Arkansas)

Mike BAUMANN, P/OF

Mahtomedi, sr.

Selected in the 34th round by the Twins in the MLB draft. “Michael is what coaches look for in a player,” Mahtomedi coach John Hardgrove said. “He leads by example. He has worked extremely hard for everything he has earned.” Baumann went 6-0 on the mound with 73 strikeouts and a 1.29 ERA. He also hit .390 with 26 RBI. (College: Jacksonville)

COREY BINGER, P/2B

Eden Prairie, sr.

Not one to shy away from a challenge. “He was dominant despite consistently pitching against our toughest opponents,” Eden Prairie coach John Buteyn said. He enters state tournament play with a 5-1 record and 1.48 ERA. “He commands the inside corner of the plate with his fastball, and has good control of his curveball and changeup,” Buteyn said. (College: Nebraska-Omaha)

ALEX BOXWELL, OF/P

Coon Rapids, sr.

Gophers assistant coach Rob Fornasiere called Boxwell “a multi-tool player. He is a strong hitter, speedy runner and has a very good throwing arm.” He batted .482 with five doubles, three triples and two home runs. Boxwell stole eight bases and scored 19 runs. “Loves to play the game and is dedicated to improving,” Coon Rapids coach Jerry Coe said. (College: Gophers)

JACK FOSSAND, P

St. Agnes, sr.

Rises to the occasion in big games. He is 3-0 in state tournament games with a tournament-record 21 consecutive scoreless innings. His senior season wasn’t as stellar as previous years because of shoulder inflammation. Fossand won 22 games in his career with a 3-to-1 strikeout-to-walk ratio. (College: Dartmouth).
