STEVENS POINT, Wis. — Stevens Point officials are trying something new to deter geese at a local park: cardboard dogs.
And the parks director says the tactic appears to be working.
Stevens Point Journal Media reports (http://spjour.nl/1p39GZ7 ) the three black cutouts, which cost about $20 each, are moved to new locations daily to keep geese off the grass area.
Parks Director Tom Schrader says city workers are finding that the geese stay 40 to 50 yards away from the recently installed cutouts.
Schrader says the city is planning on making more cutouts, and it also placed reflective kites in trees, which feature bright yellow eyes and red streamers.
In the past, the city has asked people to use toy clappers, a sound that scared geese away.
