GREEN BAY, Wis. — Some Green Bay area school districts are banning electronic cigarettes or sending reminders to parents that they are prohibited.
Press-Gazette Media reports (http://gbpg.net/1nphBiY ) the Green Bay School District will change its tobacco-use policy in coming weeks to specify a ban on e-cigarettes. School principals will also send letters to parents and guardians.
Barbara Dorff, executive director of pupil services, says use of the device has only become an issue in recent months.
E-cigarettes are battery-powered heating devices that deliver nicotine vapor to users. They use liquid nicotine rather than tobacco, but school administrators say they are harmful and worry they could lead to the use of other substances.
Pulaski High School recently sent a letter to parents reminding them use of e-cigarettes at school is not allowed.
