Hundreds gathered to hear musical performances from a stage in a boxcar and to see the decorations on the train, which will make several stops in Minnesota. All food and money donated at the event will benefit the community through the Friends in Need Food Shelf. CANADIAN PACIFIC HOLIDAY TRAIN

The festive and brightly decorated train is the backdrop for family activities. Enter the North Pole Station, where a magical village awaits. Carve ice, warm up with hot chocolate and visit with Santa. The evening culminates in a concert with Sheryl Crow and Take 6. Admission by cash or donations of toiletries. (4 p.m. Sat. Free. HOLIDAY IN LIGHTS

The Anoka County Fairgrounds has been temporarily turned into a luminous wonder. View the lights and displays while listening to carolers. Roast hot dogs and marshmallows over a bonfire and go for a hayride. If you haven’t yet mailed your wish list to Santa, visit with him to give your list of desires. (6 p.m. Fri.-next Sun. Free.
