MILWAUKEE — A 25-year-old man has been charged in the death of his girlfriend's 5-year-old son.
Darrell Rogers was charged Friday with felony first-degree reckless homicide in the death of Damion Davis in Milwaukee.
According to the complaint, Dedra Walker told authorities she left the two while she went to work Nov. 26. She checked in on the pair around 6 p.m. that night in the middle of her shift and the boy was fine. She returned around 10:20 p.m. and Rogers told her she thought he was sleeping.
Rogers told Walker he had fallen in the shower and banged his head, causing a dent in the shower wall, according to the complaint. Walker felt the man's dead, but did not observe any injuries, according to complaint. Rogers showed Walker the dent, which was not there before.
Walker found her son cold and stiff the next morning and called 911, the complaint said.
An autopsy revealed contusions and lacerations on his body and severe head and abdominal injuries. The medical examiner's office ruled the death a homicide.
The attorney listed in his online court record, Danielle Shelton, did not immediately return a call Monday. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Dec. 10.
If convicted, Rogers could face up to 60 years in prison.
