DFL Gov. Mark Dayton brought in just over $200,000 from individuals, $42,000 from political committees, including the states largest unions, and about $19,000 from lobbyists for his re-election campaign, according to the campaign finance report he has released.
The report shows Dayton has raised a total of $271,000 so far to begin his 2014 battle for another four years in office.
Unlike his spending for his first election, Dayton has infused his campaign with none of his own cash so far for his re-election effort. The heir to the Dayton department store fortune still lent his 2010 campaign $3.9 million, money which he says he doesn't ever expect to be paid back.
Dayton voluntarily releases the details of his campaign raising and spending every three months because he says he believes candidates for office should file more often than currently required. State law would not require him to release any information about the war chest he is building until next year.
At least four Republican candidates are already running against Dayton -- former House Speaker Kurt Zellers, businessman Scott Honour, Hennepin County Commissioner Jeff Johnson and state Sen. Dave Thompson.
