Small space captures San Francisco history

Earthquakes, Alcatraz, chocolate, movies … there’s so much to San Francisco’s history that it’s hard to imagine 6,000 square feet containing bits of it all. The new San Francisco History Museum at the just-opened visitor center at 449 Powell St. manages nicely. In a building across the street from the Sir Francis Drake Hotel, the visitor center’s ground floor offers the usual brochures, tickets and help finding your way around the city. Take the elevator up to the delightful museum. Information at sfhistorymuseum.com. - COX NEWSPAPERS
