Polaris Industries Inc. is prepping for a big year for its Indian motorcycle brand. Polaris has developed its Victory line of motorcycles over the last 10 years and sees Indian as a premium brand it can re-introduce to customers. The company introduced a limited-edition bike based on the designs of its previous owners at the recent International Motorcycle Show and by this fall expects to launch its own redesigned Indian.

"[Polaris] has the chance to dump the capital and the R&D it deserves into the Indian name," Mark Smith, an analyst at Feltl & Co. in Minneapolis, told the Star Tribune. "I think it is really exciting."

MED-TECH RECOVERY?

Medical-device companies have had a difficult five-year stretch, but Wunderlich Securities analyst Greg Simpson says there are signs of optimism in the sector. "As we enter 2013, pessimism has generally been replaced by signs of renewed interest in the group," he writes. One optimistic sign is that there are signals the Food and Drug Administration is "actually making progress in becoming a bit more accommodating," Simpson writes. He covers Medtronic and has a "buy" recommendation on the company.
