An honor just to be nominated

"The 18th Annual Critics' Choice Awards" (7 p.m., WUCW, Ch. 29) almost certainly will be appreciated by the winners, but most would trade a bucket of this hardware for a congratulatory call Thursday morning when Oscar nominations are announced. Look for morning talk shows to start breaking the news a little after 7:30 a.m.

The final frontier

It makes sense for us to track the weather in Burnsville, but do we really need to know what conditions are like on Saturn? "Deadliest Space Weather" (8 p.m., the Weather Channel) expands its forecast to the entire solar system and discovers that meteorologist Paul Douglas is providing competition on Venus.

Anything goes

Bravo Channel must like to live dangerously. When Kathy Griffin returns for a second season of her talk show, "Kathy" (9 p.m., Bravo), it'll be live -- and Anderson Cooper can tell you just how unpredictable his New Year's Eve co-host can be. Liza Minnelli and Jane Lynch are on board to help launch this shaky experiment.
