The tall and short of it

The diminutive Kristin Chenoweth will be co-hosting the "American Country Awards" (7 p.m., KMSP, Ch. 9), although you may not know it if her towering co-host Trace Adkins stands in the wrong place. Jason Aldean, Lady Antebellum and Little Big Town are among the performers.

Babbling Brooks

Mel Brooks usually does a dandy job of picking great partners -- Gene Wilder, Anne Bancroft, Carl Reiner. But he slipped up tapping BBC creative director Alan Yentob to interview him for "Mel Brooks Strikes Back!" (8 p.m., HBO). Yentob may be a great guy to have a Guinness with, but he's in over his head with the "2,000-Year-Old Man," who still manages to spin a few great yarns despite his inept griller.

Boxing match

Howie Mandel's got a whole new deal. "Take It All" (8 p.m., KARE, Ch. 11), a game show that will air during this time slot every night through Friday, is a little too complex to explain here, but it appears to involve a lot of swapping boxes, deceiving other contestants and fist bumping.
