Shortly after police responded Tuesday afternoon to shots fired in south Minneapolis, a man with a gunshot wound was taken to a hospital where he died.

Just before 1:45 p.m., officers responded to a report of gunshots near W. 24th Street and Pillsbury Avenue S., according to Sgt. William Palmer of the Minneapolis Police Department.

After the shots were fired, a man was seen running from the scene and a vehicle also left the area. A short time later, a man with a gunshot wound arrived at Hennepin County Medical Center after being driven there. He died in the emergency room.

It is believed that the man's death is related to the earlier shots-fired call, Palmer said. His identity hasn't been released.

No one is in custody.
