South Dakota considers hiking non-resident hunting fees

The South Dakota Game, Fish & Parks Commission may vote today at a meeting in Madison, S.D., whether to raise non-resident small-game and waterfowl license fees by as much as $15, the Sioux Falls Argus Leader is reporting.

The license increases would come at a time when hundreds of thousands of acres of South Dakota habitat have been, or are being, plowed under to be planted with corn and soybeans.

The newspaper says the increases would raise as much as $1.1 million for the state in 2013.

A non-resident small-game (pheasant) license in South Dakota cost $114 this year, including issuing fee.

The license is good for two five-day hunting periods.
