Master gardeners open up gardens for tour

Learn from the masters

There will be much more than beautiful blooms at the Hennepin County Master Gardener Learning Garden Tour, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. July 14. The 11 Minneapolis area gardens designed and tended by master gardeners feature on-site demonstrations and tips for low-mow lawns, vegetable growing strategies, designing a rain garden, shoreline restoration, landscaping with native plants and creating outdoor rooms. Master gardeners will be on hand to answer questions.

Tickets are $15, or $20 the day of the tour. They include entry to gardens, brochure with descriptions, locations and driving instructions and free handouts on yard and garden topics. Lilies galore

Lily lovers will have more than 100 different lily cultivars and species to admire at the North Star Lily Society show, 1 to 5 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday at Bachman's Heritage Room, 6010 Lyndale Av. S., Mpls. The show features lily floral arrangements and photography. Free. Call 612-861-7311.
