Joe Dixon, one of Minnesota's top white-collar crime investigators, has joined the ranks of UnitedHealth Group Inc.

After nearly 11 years as an assistant U.S. attorney in Minneapolis, Dixon said goodbye to his government job on Friday. By Monday, he was in Minnetonka, learning the ropes at the nation's largest health care organization.

"I am looking forward to working with a group of people who focus on innovative ways to make the health care system work better for everyone," Dixon said by e-mail.

Dixon presided over the U.S. attorney's fraud and public corruption division at a time of unparalleled corruption. He had a personal hand in prosecuting Tom Petters and several of his associates in a $3.5 billion Ponzi scheme.

Dixon also oversaw the $165 million fraud case of hedge fund manager Trevor Cook and the case against auto mogul Denny Hecker.

UnitedHealth has been realigning its legal team in recent months, particularly as it continues to expand its Optum health services division.
