Wimmer, Johann 'Hans'

Hans, age 89, passed away peacefully on November 6 2019 after a short illness and surrounded by family. Born April 4 1930 in Leoben Austria, Hans loved life in Austria, South Africa, Mexico, and the USA. He worked as a Computer Tech in the days when troubleshooting a system meant walking inside it, and a bug in the system was usually a cockroach, rising to the level of Director of Field Operations before retiring. Nicknamed Thabazimbi (Mountain of Iron) for his unyielding playing style, he was instrumental in bringing professional football to South Africa as a player and manager. Hans loved exploring the Kruger National Park and will be missed by the wild life of southern Africa. He had compassion for all animals and tails are wagging in heaven. Surviving a terrorist bomb, and more than one revolution, Hans experienced life and could hold an audience with tales of adventures lived. Preceded in death by father Alois and mother Leopoldine (Marl). Survived by Aloisia (Kitzer), his wife of 68 years, sons Dieter (Ann) and Mark (Dana), and grandson Michael. All who knew him will miss his infectious enthusiasm. To honor his wishes, there will be no service.
