Diamond, Barbara Lois (Segal) Barbara Diamond, born November 23, 1923 to Anne (Sachs) and Arthur Segal, passed away peacefully July 19, age 95. Born pretty, Barb stayed that way all the years of her life. Lovingly raised in South Minneapolis with her little brother, Chuck. Graduated Washburn High School and the University of Minnesota, where she travelled by street car to the St. Paul "Farm Campus" and studied interior design and home economics. Volunteer nurses' aid at the U of M hospital during the war years; a very popular sorority girl after the boys returned! Selected a handsome soldier/journalism student from Minot, North Dakota, Norm Diamond, to marry. Healthfully raised four children Dick, Debbie, Pam, and Patty on Knox Avenue South near Minnehaha Creek. Engaged in Scouts, PTA, and many other kids' activities. Community volunteer, tennis player, lake-walker and traveler. Creative cook, knitter, sewer and painter. Cultured patron of the symphony, theatre, and the arts. Served as one of the original docents at the Mpls Institute of Art for decades, culminating in her textile work being exhibited there at 87 years of age. Productive and accomplished, Barb was a master gardener before the term even existed. She was always the brightest blossom in the bunch! Preceded in death by her parents, special Aunt Ida (Levitz), beloved Aunt Lenore & Uncle Hy (Fischbein), dear in-laws Shirley and Fritz (Nassauer), charming husband Norman, and precious son, Richard (survived by Lee Diamond). Left with our memories: loving brother, Charles Segal (Sandy), caring nieces & nephews, many devoted friends and her trio of daughters, Deborah (Elizabeth), Pamela (Michael), and Patricia (John), who worked together like a well-oiled machine to make sure her last years on this earth were interesting, stimulating, and comfortable. She also leaves behind ten beloved grandchildren and 12 adored great- grandchildren to carry on the force of nature that was Barb Diamond. Shiva/Open House will be held at 1941 Irving Ave So. (TODAY), July 21 from 10 am 2 pm. A gathering will be planned this coming Fall to celebrate Barb's long and active life. Memorials, if desired, may be directed to: MN Landscape Arboretum, 3675 Arboretum Drive, Chaska MN 55318 (arboretum.umn.edu/…)
