Rahr, Jodell "Jody" Gerain Stirmlinger 87, passed away peacefully on November 13, 2018. She was an extremely kind woman, loving wife, mother and grandmother. Jody was always ready to entertain friends and family at a moment's notice. Born in Quincy IL on August 23, 1931 and raised in St Paul, MN. Survived by her daughter Heidi Rahr Faris, son Frederick "Fritzie" William Rahr Jr, grandchildren Will and Hayden Rahr, Eve Sussman (Jon) and Ian Valentine, many nieces and nephews and her beloved dachshund Isadora. She will especially be missed by her extended family The Ryan Clan. Preceded in death by husband Frederick William Rahr Sr, parents Thomas M. Stirmlinger and Dorthy R. Stirmlinger and her dear friend Patty Ryan. Jodell enjoyed homes in Bloomington, MN, Naples, Florida and Tenderfoot Lake, WI. She was educated at Derham Hall, Ward-Belmont, Juilliard and St. Kate's where she developed a lifelong love of music and opera. Jodell was an accomplished model, winning Miss Minnesota and became a finalist in the first Miss Universe Pageant in 1952. Jodell was a former President and board member of the Twin Cities Opera Guild, active in the Minnesota Opera and our local PBS station's "Action Auction" fundraiser. Jody loved animals, dedicating years of service to the Minnesota Zoological Gardens and the Humane Society. Her love of birds frequently took her into the woods in search of a hard to find feathered friend. Jody raised many dachshunds and was never far from her four legged-children, also adopting orphan fawns and hand bottle feeding them until they were old enough to live on their own. Jodell was a wonderful mother and grandmother who loved pouring German pancake batter in the shape of funny animals, baking Rahr family Christmas cookies and decorating Ukranian Easter Eggs. Jody met her husband Fritz while singing at the famous Schiek's Cafe, enjoying a 60 year marriage until he passed in 2015. A special thanks to all the caregivers and the Jennifer's and Tom H. A memorial service and celebration of life will be held on December 1, 2018 at Edina Country Club, 5100 Wooddale Avenue, Edina, MN. Social hour begins at 4pm. Service around 5pm.
