Van Dake, Byron F. Age 92, of Maple Grove. WW II Navy Veteran. Byron was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend - all his friends were his best friends. Byron had a long career working at all levels of air traffic control with NW Airlines, FAA, and the Metropolitan Airports Commission. He was very civic minded and his volunteering including time as a Cub/Boy Scout Leader, flooding neighborhood ice rinks, and as a volunteer for the Maple Grove Police Dept. He also found time for hobbies: ham radio enthusiast, historian, genealogist, and avid skier. Byron was most proud of completing 80 plus marathons. Preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy; daughters, Bonita Van Dake and Cynthia Erni; and granddaughter, Jennifer Van Dake. Survived by son, Bruce (Laurel) Van Dake; daughters, Bonnie Lee Van Dake and Michelle Van Dake; and special friends, Jim Rennie and Dani Boxrucker. A Celebration of Byron's Life will include a Graveside Service at 11:30 AM on Tuesday, November 20, 2018 at St. Fridolin's Cemetery, 11700 Goose Lake Rd., Champlin, followed by a Reception at Advent Lutheran Church, 9475 Jefferson Hwy., Maple Grove.
