Rivard, Scott Arthur Age 70, passed away at home in Minneapolis surrounded by his family on Oct. 2nd. Scott was diagnosed with esophageal cancer in April, 2017. He was born on July 8, 1948 and was raised in Taylors Falls, MN. He moved to Minneapolis and earned an associates degree in applied science from Brown Institute. Scott married Terry Sundry in 1973 and they had 3 children. Scott began his career in 1968 at Universal Audio. He met Herb Pilhofer, Tom Jung, and Gary Erickson and together formed Sound 80, Inc., a cutting-edge recording studio. Scott designed and built custom mixing and recording consoles, a high definition power amplifier, and a console for theatrical use that was the only one of its kind in the world. They were installed at the Children's and Guthrie Theaters, U of M Rarig Center, and the Harkness Theater in NY. In 1984, Paul Martinson and Scott started 74th Street Recording Studio. In 1985 he became the Technical Director of "A Prairie Home Companion" radio show. For over 20 years, he mixed the live radio show, broadcast from the Fitzgerald Theater in St. Paul every Saturday night. He traveled for performances throughout the U.S. and Europe. Scott has recorded over 100 albums, commercials, film scores, and mixed music for TV. Prior to retiring, he taught at McNally Smith College of Music. Preceded in death by father, Lloyd Rivard; father- and mother-in-law Arland and Thelma Sundry, and brother-in-law Joel Laaveg. He is survived by his mother, Mary Rivard, wife, Terry, children Jordan (Chris) Golomb, Brandon (Lynn) Rivard, and Megan (Jeff) Cobia, grandchildren Bella, Max, & Lila Golomb, Carson, Charlotte, & Cullen Rivard, Gwenevere & baby boy Cobia (due in Dec); siblings, Todd (Mary Ann) Rivard, Roxanne (Jim) McGurk, and Kevin (Jodi) Rivard; sisters-in-law Sue (Larry) Berg and Gina Laaveg & fiancé Steve Schutte, brother-in-Law Craig (Stephani) Sundry; along with many nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews. A Celebration of Scott's Life will be held at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church, 4537 3rd Avenue S., Mpls, MN on Saturday, October 13th. Visitation from 9:30-11 AM, Service at 11 AM, lunch to follow. In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred to the American Cancer Society or the Alzheimer's Association.
