Tiffani Thiessen may be playing one of the moms in "Alexa & Katie," but the show's title stars are wisely taking their cues from "I Love Lucy" instead of "Saved By the Bell." Paris Berelc and Isabel May consistently generate laughs out of this nimble teen-oriented sitcom, even when the plot deals with one character's cancer battle.

"The Zen Diaries of Garry Shandling" instantly joins "Mr. Warmth: The Don Rickles Project" and "Joan Rivers: A Piece of Work" on the list of best documentaries about a comedian. The running time of more than four hours over two nights may sound excessive, but director Judd Apatow rewards viewers with insight into the late comic's mind and neuroses. For anyone who gives a hoot about the art of stand-up, this is required viewing.

Breaking up ain't hard to do

Gwyneth Paltrow and Chris Martin have nothing on the former lovebirds in "Splitting Up Together," who "consciously uncouple" while still sharing parental duties in the same house. The graceful breakup stretches credibility, but there's no denying how great it is to welcome back Jenna Fischer, who brings the same unforced charm she gave to the role of Pam in "The Office."
