A 31-year-old Minneapolis man pleaded guilty to second-degree unintentional murder in Hennepin County District Court on Monday.

Brandon Benjamin Broszko pleaded guilty to fatally shooting 24-year-old Givontae Walker last summer outside the Northside Food Market at 36th and Lyndale avenues N.

The Hennepin County attorney's office said Broszko is expected to be sentenced on June 23 to 10 years in prison — a downward departure from the sentencing guidelines.

According to the county attorney's office:

During his plea hearing Monday afternoon, Broszko confirmed what officers viewed on surveillance video from the store.

Video showed that Walker was already inside the store when Broszko and another man arrived.

The other man had previously robbed Walker. When Walker saw the man, he called family and friends.

Surveillance video showed Broszko and the other man leaving the store. Then Walker knocked the other man to the ground, where he remained.

In the video, Broszko is then "walking away down the sidewalk and grabbing an item out of his pants," causing him to drop a few items he got from the store. Broszko then takes a gun and shoots in the direction of Walker.

Video then shows Broszko picking up the items he dropped and running away. Walker is seen running in the opposite direction and collapsing.

From the surveillance video, officers saw Broszko grab a bottle and put it back. Fingerprints from the bottle matched Broszko's. A fingerprint was also matched to a sandwich recovered at the scene.
