Q: Just got done binge-watching "The Brink." We are left with many loose ends. I cannot believe HBO will leave us in this situation. Any chances that this show will be set for another season?
A: No. The show starring Jack Black and Tim Robbins was dropped in October 2015 after one season. Making that a bit weird: HBO ordered a second season, then changed its mind.
As the Hollywood Reporter noted, HBO said in a statement: "After evaluating our schedule and our programming needs, we unfortunately decided we cannot give 'The Brink' the attention it deserves for a second season. We are proud of the first season and wish everyone involved in this show the very best."
Fifth season for 'Longmire'
Q: Did Netflix produce more than one season for "Longmire?" Is there more coming?
A: Yes. The streaming service, which picked up the contemporary western for a fourth season after A&E dropped it, has ordered a fifth season. Look for it sometime this fall.
Boom times in Mayberry
Q: On an episode of "The Andy Griffith Show," they showed a "POP. 5000" sign on the side of the railroad station. Must be a mistake?
A: Not to devotees of the classic sitcom. For example, "The Andy Griffith Show Book" by Ken Beck and Jim Clark says that Mayberry's population was "a little less than 2,000 at the beginning of the 1960s" (as the series began) but by the mid-'60s, the train depot sign had the population at 5,360. Apparently those were boom times for the little town. Shows what can happen when a town has a beloved sheriff, I guess.
'Glass Castle' on big screen
Q: There was a movie made a couple of years ago based on the book "The Glass Castle" by Jeannette Walls. Was it ever released?
A: No, because it has not been made yet. The adaptation of Walls' excellent memoir was originally set to star Jennifer Lawrence. Lawrence left the project amid reports of problems casting another role.
Now it's reportedly set to star recent Oscar-winner Brie Larson ("Room") instead of Lawrence, with Woody Harrelson, Naomi Watts and Max Greenfield also in the cast. According to entertainment publication Variety, production is set to start in June.
Hallmark has 'Heart'
Q: Can you tell me if there will be sequels to the show "When Calls the Heart?" Hopefully there will be more shows in 2017.
A: There will be. Hallmark Channel has ordered a fourth season of the series. It is set to begin production this summer, with a return set for early in 2017.
More deviousness
Q: Do you know if "Devious Maids" is returning? I loved that show.
A: Then you will have a chance to love it more. A fourth season begins June 6 on Lifetime, with the second-season premiere of "UnReal" following.
