"It's a great time of year for mushrooms. Chanterelles are a favorite, though waning now. Examples of fall mushrooms that take their place are honey mushrooms, maitake, blewit, chicken of the woods, porcini, and various other boletes, a group of mushrooms that have pores rather than gills. Hardwood forests of mid-late age are good places to look central and south and mixed conifer and hardwood forests in the north. Minnesota is blessed with plenty of state forests and parks, all of which are legal to hunt mushrooms for personal consumption."
