St. Paul police are investigating a home invasion robbery that occurred about 11:30 a.m. Thursday on the East Side.

An elderly man was tied up and slapped by a suspect who had been at the house in the 1700 block of E. Ivy Avenue on Wednesday offering to do yard work, said Janet Dunnom, police spokeswoman.

The suspect was turned away then, but came back Thursday, forced his way inside and made off with some of the man's valuables.

Police canvassed the neighborhood, Dunnom said. She said the case "seems isolated at this point," but residents were advised to lock doors and to be aware of strangers who may be "looking to see if you're home alone."
