Whitney T. Kizart, who killed her ex-lover's wife when the couple went to her home to confront her, was sentenced Thursday to six years and nine months in prison.

Kizart, 22, pleaded guilty July 2 in Ramsey County District Court to second-degree manslaughter.

Jennifer Linnear, 26, was stabbed to death about 1:15 a.m. March 5 after she and her husband, Robert, drove to Kizart's apartment in the 600 block of Oakdale Avenue in St. Paul. They went to confront her about allegedly passing a sexually transmitted disease to Robert Linnear while they were lovers. He then passed it to his wife.

Kizart came to their vehicle and opened the passenger-side door, the criminal complaint said. Jennifer Linnear was stabbed when she got out of the vehicle and started yelling at Kizart.

She was the mother of five children, ages 10 to 2. On Thursday, a victim-impact statement from her cousin Shon Cannon was read in court. It said in part:

"I had the honor and pleasure of loving my cousin for 26 years but her children will not. ... Their mother was not taken from them due to an ailment, accident or surgery that went wrong, but by murder.

"Jennifer did not live a life that was flawless or of luxury, but she would give a family member or stranger whatever she had, and most importantly her children. Her children were the center of her joy and her reason for trying to improve in life."

District Judge James H. Clark gave Kizart credit for 162 days she has spent in custody and ordered her to pay a $1,000 fine and restitution.
