A man was arrested Sunday at a motel in south Minneapolis after he called police to say he had explosives and planned to blow up the building, police said.

No explosives were found after the hourlong standoff at the Aqua City Motel at 5739 Lyndale Av. S., according to police spokesman Sgt. William Palmer. The man was taken to a hospital and will receive a psychiatric evaluation, Palmer said, describing the incident as "a mental health issue."

A few people in the area were evacuated, the area was cordoned off and some MTC buses were rerouted during the standoff.

The suspect called 911 just after 9 a.m. and said he was going to blow up the motel, Palmer said. A SWAT team was mobilized, but after talking to police negotiators for about an hour, the man allowed himself to be taken into custody.

No one was hurt.
