Three members of a Twin Cities family were injured when their car struck a bear on Interstate 35 north of the metro, authorities said Monday.
The incident occurred shortly before 8 p.m. Sunday near Hwy. 70, halfway between Rush City and Pine City, according to the State Patrol.
Hui Hong Lim, 42, of Mahtomedi, hit the bear while southbound on I-35, the patrol said.
He was hospitalized with noncritical injuries, as were 16-year-old Josiah Lim and 12-year-old Micah Lim.
The bear did not survive the collision, said Patrol Sgt. Neil Dickenson.
Traffic incidents in 2016 in Minnesota killed 27 bears, the lowest total for the past five years, according to the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources.
