Seat belts were not being worn by a couple killed in a car that ran a stop sign and was hit by a minivan in northwestern Minnesota, authorities said Sunday.

The crash occurred about 7:50 p.m. Saturday on Hwy. 59 south of Thief River Falls, according to the State Patrol.

Dead at the scene in the car were Michael J. Buckley, 33, of Fargo, and Amber D. Danzeisen, 25, of West Fargo. Seriously injured in the car was 1-year-old Kie D. Schultes, of West Fargo. The boy was taken to Sanford Medical Center in Fargo.

The child was in the proper restraint device.

A mother from Andover and her two children were in the minivan, according to the patrol. Suffering injuries not considered life-threatening were Rachel M. Pearce, 27, and Julian, 3, and Emmerick, not yet a year old.
