A 13-year-old North Dakota boy operating a motorcycle ran a stop sign near dusk and was fatally struck by a car west of Grand Forks, authorities said.

The crash occurred about 4:30 p.m. Friday at Hwy. 1 and County Road 8, not far from the Grand Forks Air Force Base, according to the state Highway Patrol.

Killed was Dustin Jorde, of Lakota, N.D., the patrol said.

The minimum age for operating a motorcycle in North Dakota is 14. Jorde was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash, the patrol added.

The car's driver, Shelby Lorenz, of Lawton, N.D., escaped unharmed, according to the patrol.
