A pedestrian was killed early Saturday after being hit by a car while crossing Hwy. 10 in Sauk Rapids.

Police were called to the intersection of Hwy. 10 and County Road 3 in Sauk Rapids around 5:30 a.m. The pedestrian, 23-year-old Robert C. Schmit, of St. Cloud, died at the scene.

Angela Lott, 37, of Sauk Rapids, the driver of a Buick Century involved in the accident, was treated at the St. Cloud Hospital with noncritical injuries.

Police don't believe alcohol was a factor.

On Thursday in west-central Minnesota, Richard Miller, 75, was killed when his bike collided with a construction truck outside Parkers Prairie, about a half-hour north of Alexandria.

According to the Department of Public Safety, an average of 40 pedestrians are killed each year in Minnesota.
